Polypropylene, polystyrene rock-like plastic raw material, metal rods, plastic and rubber scraps, screens, sound, metal sheet platforms, light Tunç’s ongoing research project, “An Intimate Inventory of Leftovers,” takes place in a mid-scale industrial site marked as an excavation area. This project explores the waste and scraps generated during production, focusing on their transformation processes. It examines the aesthetic that emerges from ‘mistakes,’ as well as the overlooked potential of these materials and the losses that come with them.
In the artist’s site-specific installation featured in the “The Void” exhibition, key themes include the production environments of industrial complexes, the archaeology and geology of materials, the dynamics of machinery, fragmented time, and the exploration of lost matter. Through ‘excavations’ in industrial sites, the artist uncovered seemingly natural yet inorganic accumulations that resemble fossilized raw materials. These are combined with video footage of water-cutting machines reminiscent of urban fountains, creating an imagined landscape. This landscape is accompanied by a sound composition entirely made up of recordings collected during the machines’ operation.
